H&M Return, Refund & Exchange policy


H & M Based in Sweden, Hennes & Mauritz AB, often known as H&M Group, is a global apparel brand that specializes in fast-fashion apparel. As of June 23, 2022, the H&M Group had 4,801 stores operating under different corporate brands throughout 75 different geographic markets. After Inditex, H&M is the second-biggest global apparel seller. Erling Persson established H&M in 1947 under the name Hennes. Daniel Erver is the company’s current CEO, having taken over from Helena Helmersson in January 2024.

For thirty days, you can determine whether an item is right for you. If you would want to exchange or return an item, visit any H&M shop in the US (except Puerto Rico) or use the return site to file the return.


As long as an item is in resellable condition and has not been worn, washed, damaged, or altered, along with all labels and tags still attached, H&M will reimburse the majority of purchases made within 30 days of the initial purchase. This includes furniture, which must be disassembled and returned in its original packaging. There are the following exclusions in effect:

  • You’ll get an e-merchandise credit within 30 days.
  • There will be a return fee of $2.99 for H&M Members and $5.99 for Non-Members for returns to our online warehouse. Online returns are free for H&M Plus Members.In-store returns are always free!
  • Only unopened beauty products may be returned to us for hygienic and safety concerns.
  • For hygiene reasons, underwear is final sale.
  • Swimwear with a broken or missing sanitary seal is not eligible for a refund from us.
  • For sanitary and safety concerns, fabric face masks cannot be returned.
  • Restricted items cannot be returned to us. Learn more about what is and isn’t allowed.
    Cards for gifts are final sale.
  • Return policies for designer collaborations and special collections may be different from our regular return policies mentioned above.
  • A tiny percentage of items are not returnable to the retailer. If you attempt to return one of these items, our staff members will assist you in arranging a return in alternative ways.
  • Certain items are not returnable, not even with a receipt, because they are marked “Final Sale.”

Online exchanges are not possible. Please return any products you don’t like and place a new order on hm.com if you would rather have them in a different colour or size.


In any US H&M store, with the exception of Puerto Rico, you are always welcome to return or exchange items for free. Within 30 days after purchase, please bring the item(s) you wish to return or exchange, along with the electronic receipt that is linked to your shipping confirmation email. You will only be able to exchange after 30 days at the current selling price. Exchanged goods have to be of comparable or higher worth.

The following items are not returnable in-store

  • Online purchases made at H&M HOME are not returnable in-store; returns must be made by mail.
  • Orders that are damaged need to be sent back to the warehouse. For assistance with missing or inaccurate items, please get in touch with customer service.

The original mode of payment, such as the credit card used to place the order, will be utilized to issue your refund. The price of shipping and handling is not refundable. Refunds will be made using the original payment method. Please give your transaction up to 14 days to process.


Simply present the QR code when you turn in your shipment at a USPS station to return things via USPS, or print and attach the label found in our Returns Portal. Pre-paid and pre-addressed label. Your refund will automatically be reduced by the $5.99 return shipping fee. Please use the label provided if you have an H&M membership. There will be a $2.99 return fee. Plus Members can return items for free.

Return Guidelines

  • To begin, go to our Returns Portal.
  • Put the item or items you want to return in an appropriate box or bag, like the one your order came in.
  • Print and attach the return label found in our Returns Portal, or download the QR code to present when you turn in your box at a USPS facility.
  • Deliver the package to any USPS mailbox or Post Office of your choosing.

Your original payment method will be used to give your refund. The price of shipping and handling is not refundable.

Emails for tracing your return and a confirmation email for processing your merchandise will be sent to you. In order for the credit to post to your account, please allow up to two weeks. Kindly give the credit two billing cycles to show up on your credit card statement.


Please be aware that orders for free in-store pickup are only returnable within the stores. Mail-order returns are not allowed.


Within 30 days after the purchase date, we offer an exchange or refund using the original payment method, accompanied by a receipt. You can only replace items within 30 days of receiving your receipt, at the current selling price. Exchanged goods have to be of comparable or higher worth.


Without a receipt, merchandise cannot be returned or exchanged.
