Living the Not-So-Loca Life

May 5, 2016 by Tanya // 24 Comments

I’ve come to a hard conclusion: my life is kind of dull and repetitive. This is both a blessing and a curse. I have friends whose lives are whirlwinds of activity, hi-jinks and craziness and it just makes me sleepy and feel old. That life is not for me (although it might be the perfect life for you!) But … on the other hand, my life also needs a jolt of something. I’m just not sure what, yet. And figuring it out is my new big to-do.

So what brought on this revelation? Well, I’m linking with the What’s New With You link-up, hosted by Kristen from See You in a Porridge and Gretchen from Gretchen Runs, which I’m really excited to join. It just took me so long to figure out what’s new with me because nothing is really new. Same old me. Since I’m embracing my awesomeness, I need to figure out what that really looks like, cuz it’s more than this.

A Sneak Peak into My Not-So-Exciting but Still Good Life

Don’t get me wrong — my life is still good. It’s just lacking a little oomph and now that I really, really see that — I can add some. You know, once I figure out exactly what that is. ๐Ÿ™‚

Where’s MaxE?

Oh, there the Max Man is. He is 17 pounds of pep and I love that creature with all my heart. #CrazyCatLady and #NotAshamed.

Celebrating Cinco de Mayo

With good food! Living in LA, we have the best Mexican food outside of … well, Mexico. So to honor my Mexican friends and to give Trump the finger, I made some of my favorite dishes: pork carnitas, spanish rice and a big bowl of guacamole. Ummm … did I mention that my big goal this year is to get healthy and eat right? The things we do for friends. ๐Ÿ™‚

Cleaning My Linen Closet

linen closetMy apartment has very little storage space. This is good in that it makes me really think about whether I truly have the space for something before I buy it (I used to be a really bad mindless spender). And yes, I dedicate a shelf in my linen closet (which is weirdly in my bedroom that does not have an attached bathroom) to books. They matter more to me than towels, except when I get out of the shower, then towels outrank books. I also have no idea what is in those boxes. Some day, when I am feeling adventuresome, I will open them. But right now, they help make the closet look organized. ๐Ÿ™‚

I Also Made this Lemon Sour Cream Pie … Again

I know. I know. I said that getting healthy was my big goal this year. But you see, I had this lowly pie crust sitting in my freezer, taking up valuable space.

So I thought to myself, “Tanya, you need to get rid of that crust.”

To which I replied, “Darn tooting. You should make your lemon sour cream pie because it was delicious and your pictures weren’t so great.”

I responded with, “Two birds with one pie! You are a genius, self!

Self replied, “I am and FYI — your hair looks great today too.”

See, sometimes my inner voice is nice. Anyway, I listened to myself and made the pie.

Lemon Sour Cream Pie

And it was delicious. Now I feel good since I freed-up some much needed space in my freezer and … okay, okay — even I think that excuse is lame. So I made a pie and ate it. Not all once, people! I froze most of it, which now that I think about it … damn it! I made the pie to empty out my freezer, not add stuff back!! Glerg. Ack. Bleech. Snort. Guess who is not a rocket scientist? Guess who is having pie for dessert tonight!

And now I’m back to being a genius, albeit one with a pouchy belly. ๐Ÿ™‚

Random Pics from My Life

The pool I am supposed to swim in twice a week per my monthly get healthy goals, which I failed last month. I will do better this month. Birds of Prey from my walk to the grocery store. Stairs that I am going to climb to help decrease the size of my ass and thighs. Book I read and will review on Monday (along with lots of other books!). Another picture of Max because he is my muse and you can never have too many cat pictures.

My Life in a Nutshell

Yup, that’s my life. It may heavily revolve around a well-indulged and beloved feline and what I’m going to eat, but it’s still a good life.

So, what’s new with you?

Hope you find the jolt you’re looking for! My daily routine is super boring, and I’m totally OK with that. Every once in a great while I throw in some kind of new type of class to break up the monotony.

Thanks, Tonya. I don’t mind my day-to-day routine so much, it’s just there isn’t much else besides work in my life. And I don’t want work to “be” my life. I definitely enjoy taking classes too and should check out some.

ugh i hate my linen closet. every time i organize it, i find towel all over the place and that’s because the rest of my family could care less about an organized linen closet!! #rage.

LOL! I would be the family member with little regard to a tidy linen closet. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m trying to be neater … but ummmmm … I like organized chaos, which is complete code for I’m a slob.

I am a person who craves routine, but every once in awhile, it is nice to break the mold a little bit. And also, you can never have too many cat pictures! I take pictures of my cat all the time ๐Ÿ™‚ #catmommy

Yeah for cat pictures and another #catmommy who takes way too many pictures of her “kid”. ๐Ÿ™‚ They are just so photogentic! I like routine, but I have little else in my life besides work and definitely need to get out more and live, not stupidly, but get outside my comfort zone.

My life is also very dull and repetitive. It also revolves around food and finding ways to give Drumpf the finger. Sometimes I find myself with an itch for something more, but overall I’m feeling fairly content, especially when I take the time to focus on all of the good that I do have in my life. I’m really jealous that you have a pool to use. I keep telling my husband that we need to move to a community or neighborhood with a pool but he is so anti HOAs. Oh well!

Yay! Someone else who wants to talk food and give Drumpf the finger, which is becoming my new favorite hobby, although does often lead to #rage and lots of eye twitching. It is so nice having pool, especially since swimming is one of the very few exercises I enjoy!

oh girl. my life is super dull and repetitive. well, more repetitive than dull. i think i used to think it was dull but now i don’t mind. i have parts with super exciting things and stuff, but then i get to come back to the stable, repetitive, comfortable life. it’s not for everyone and that’s okay, but it’s also okay to enjoy it lol. my linen closet is the messiest thing ever. that pie looks amazing, i laughed so hard at ‘Two birds with one pie!’

I don’t have any super exciting parts – that’s my problem. The routine stuff I don’t mind at all; it’s just that’s all there is. And that is definitely not living in my book. My linen closet is typically a disaster and this neatness will likely last a few weeks before Tornado Tanya strikes again. I’m glad I made you laugh and that pie is amazing!

Mmm. That pie…and coincidentally I do have a frozen pie shell taking up way too much room in the freezer… ๐Ÿ™‚

My life seems to go in cycles. When it’s routine & a little on the predictable side I always crave more & want some spice. Then all of a sudden, spice I get. And I’m busy every weekend & can’t plan anything & just wish for some structure & a night watching Netflix.

Jessie – I strongly encourage you to put that pie crust to good use (and free-up valuable space in your freezer)and make that lemon pie! It is so good! Isn’t that life? When you want spice, you get an overabundance and long for the “boring” days again. I ought to be careful what I wish for, but I still want a little spice!

You can send some of that pie over to me if you’re looking to free up some freezer space…?? Also your cat is beautiful and that mexican food looks totally delicious!

I think having a stable and good life is highly underrated! I wish for a bit more stability. However I totally know the feeling of just needing to shake things up a little. I’m a total contradiction – that’s probably why my life hasn’t settled down yet!

I would send you some pie, Rachel, but ummmmm … it’s all gone now. Gluttony, thy name is Tanya. ๐Ÿ™‚ Very true that we undervalue a stable, routine life. I definitely don’t want chaos but I also don’t do much else besides work and I want more.

Why is it so hard to stick to healthy goals? Oh right, because amazing food like that exists. That Mexican food looked so good! Cleaning out closets can be so refreshing. I have been dragging out that process for weeks but I love how organized it looks when I am done.

Amen, Gabby! It is so darn hard to eat well when all the yummy food is naughty! I loathe cleaning but it does feel good when it’s all said and done. I just wish it would last. It seems like everything is out of order within a few minutes.

Max!! I have a very special place in my heart for ginger cats. I’ve never been a cat owner until I met my husband. Now, I’m a full-fledged crazy cat lady. We have 3, and although I love their distinct, unique personalities, Astro (my ginger boy) and I do have an extra special bond. Since I’ve never had cats in my life, my husband often tells me that what we have is truly special, that he has never seen a cat adore and attach themselves to a person the way Astro is with me.

Tanya, talking about Mexican food to a Texas woman who lives in a land with craptastic attempts at Mexican food…well…it’s the thing I miss most about Texas. After all, I can still talk to my friends and family ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh man. I can’t even begin to imagine what Mexican food must be like in Australia. Yikes!
