Many people already shared their focus words and/or goals for 2017, so I am late to the party but for good reason. I chose Connection for my focus word after Emperor Baby Fists won the election and shocked the world. In light of what happened, I felt called to connect with likeminded individuals, my inner self and those open to respectful discussion. Because I planned to blend my goals with my focus word, I took plenty of time figuring it out.
Honoring My Focus Word and Listening
Happy President’s Day, everyone! I know many of you have the day off. Sadly, I do not. Well, I could since I’m a #GirlBoss but this boss needs to work today, which is fine by me. Heading into this week, I knew my plate was full and blogging both here and at Eat Laugh Purr would be a struggle. Thus, I faced a choice on Sunday: to give myself some needed downtime to prepare for a busy week or write posts. Old Tanya would have wailed and beat her fist against her chest (Kidding! I’m dramatic but not that dramatic) while New Tanya passed her first test by choosing to honor her focus word and listen.
My Focus Word for the Year is to Listen
Focus words have become the rage and I imagine the reasoning behind choosing one varies, but for me, my focus word represents strength, hope and most importantly, purpose. It fuels every goal, dream and wish that I have for this year and beyond. Many good, strong words were considered, like love, abundance, joy, creativity, freedom, fierce, fearlessness and so on. Their spirit resonated with me, but none felt quite right; the connection or kinship wasn’t there. They were too bold, almost overwhelming in scope. So I did what one of my mentors taught me to do when facing a choice: I got quiet and listened.
