Some Light for Dark Times

Some Light for Dark Times

May 20, 2019 by Tanya // 8 Comments

I don’t want to be all melodramatic but it feels like we’re going so far backwards that I expect to see cavemen hanging out at McDonalds and a T-Rex bellowing next to the Hollywood sign and it’s not CGI or make-believe. It’s scary, frustrating and exhausting. We need to continue to speak up and take action (it’s called nominating good candidates and voting) but we also need to feed our soul with humor, love and kindness. And that’s my plan for today.

Let’s Tickle that Funny Bone

We could cry but let’s laugh instead, okay? Memes to the rescue!

Meme: I thought as an adult I wouldn't need to sing the Alphabet Song when alphabetizing, but yet, here we are.

I laughed when I saw this then I thought, “Oh shit.” Because … you know. Be honest โ€“ you do it too. Right? Right? Come on. Say you do it too.

Meme. This lady cut me off and to be honest, I'm kinda afraid to honk at her. License Plate reads 666PMS.

Me too. I mean, she warned you, so whatever happens … you’re to blame.

Montage of people from the 80s. People who say millennials look stupid went around thinking this was cool.

Well played millennials. Well played.

They Say Love Makes the World Go Around

I’d like to think that’s true. Some days, though, it feels like love is in short supply. Let’s see if we can replenish the world’s love supply.

Man holding an umbrella over a woman in a wheelchair. "The world is changed by your example, not by your opinion."

All good writers are taught, “to show, don’t tell” and it’s a good life practice as well.

A couple of months ago, an old lady asked me to walk her home because she was scared she was going to slip on the ice. We've become friends and I now walk her home almost everyday.

I love this so much.

Man walking back and forth on plane, comforting a seat mate's baby for her.

Awww … yes. There are good people all around. Look for them. Be one of them.

Girls Run this World

Beyonce was right. I mean, obviously. ๐Ÿ˜€ Jokes aside, I know it would be easier to pretend this is normal to keep our sanity, but we can’t because it’s not normal. It’s dangerous; it’s wrong; it must not continue. I will not be complicit and hope you won’t be either. So let’s summon up all our girl power and roar.

She wasn't looking for a knight, she was looking for a sword. = atticus

Let’s grab our swords and head into battle, with both fury and hope.

Don't tell a girl with fire in her veins and hurricane bones what she should and shouldn't do. In the blink of an eye, she will shatter that ridiculous cage you attempt to build around her bohemian spirit.
- Melody Lee

We are more powerful than they realize.

The devil whispered in my ear, "you're not strong enough to withstand the storm."
Today I whispered in the devil's ear, "I am the storm."

Yes, we are beautiful, raging storms. Evoke our ire at your own risk world.

The Brightest Days Come after the Darkest Nights

It feels pitch black some days but light it coming because we are that light. Shine bright, my friends. Shine bright.

What do you do to stay sane in these dark times?

I dont get much into politics but over the weekend, my friend and i went OFF on all the BS going on in American politics and why it’s SO IMPORTANT to go out and vote. it doesn’t matter if you hate all the candidates, vote for the lesser of evils; your vote could be a deciding vote and could turn the table! TBH, i think most politicians are lying scumbags but i just look at what closest fits my beliefs/what i want and vote for that person. when our last provincial election happened, everyone hated all the candidates and didn’t bother to vote so now, the dreaded premiere is in power and is cutting funding to everything and now everyone is mad.

Spot-on, Kathy. I feel like a lot of people sat out the 2016 presidential election because they didn’t like either candidate and assumed Hilary would win since that’s what the polls predicted. Well, guess what – that didn’t happen. Like you said, it’s finding the candidate that closet fits your beliefs and not expecting any candidate to 100% match everything you’d want.

All of these made my day brighter for sure!!!!!
The millennial one is too funny… but their day is coming too – just wait ๐Ÿ˜‰ haha We’ll look back at all the flower crowns & the bare shoulder hole trend (HATE THAT) & laugh.
That license plate – that’s hilarious – I’d sell the car

So true. Every group has mocked the preceding group…and for good reason…to only get mocked by the next group…for good reason! Although I like the bare shoulder hole because my shoulders are okay but I got bat wing arms. LOL! I feel like the woman with that license wanted it. It probably does make everyone think twice about hassling her!
