Meet the Blogger Behind A Mindful Migration

December 10, 2015 by Tanya // 4 Comments

I decided to change things up a bit today and talk about me, me, me. After all, if you’re reading this, you wanna know more about the person behind the blog, right? I thought so. I wasn’t initially sure the best way to do this without coming across like some vapid reality star, so after some deep thinking (aka talking with my cat, Max), I decided to let Max interview me. He was happy to play along, since he felt it was a bit rude that he wasn’t a part of A Mindful Migration and wanted to introduce himself to y’all anyway. Being the indulgent Cat Mama that I am, I agreed.

10 Low-Cost DIY Holiday Gift Ideas

December 7, 2015 by Tanya // 12 Comments

There once was a time when a DIY holiday gift was somewhat unpopular and undesirable. People looked upon them with disregard, considering them to be the fruitcake of gifts. The kind few wanted to unwrap Christmas morning. Oh, how times have changed. DIY holiday gifts are no longer banished and forgotten, but coveted and showcased. Done right, they can become some of your most well-received gifts without breaking your piggy bank.

5 Tips to Hosting a Fabulous and Frugal Holiday Party and Free Party Checklist

December 3, 2015 by Tanya // 8 Comments

Tis the season for Christmas carols, mistletoe and repeated viewings of Elf. What can I say โ€” a bowl full of spaghetti and maple syrup sounds delicious! Or not. I like my spaghetti and maple syrup separate from one another, as most people, who are not elves or Will Ferrell, likely do. Two things that I do know belong together, even if they seem quite opposite at first blush, are fabulous and frugal. Yes Virginia, hosting a wildly fabulous and frugal holiday party is possible with a little ingenuity and planning.

5 Gratitude Exercises to Incorporate into Your Life

5 Gratitude Exercises to Incorporate into Your Life

November 30, 2015 by Tanya // 7 Comments

Living in LA, you see both extremes of affluence and poverty. I can stand at a stoplight and watch a Rolls Royce Phantom glide by while being approached by a homeless person, asking if I can spare a dollar. It serves as a constant reminder how fortunate I am, which is why I incorporate daily gratitude exercises into my life so I never forget. When things go wrong, my natural inclination isn’t to jump to gratitude and to give thanks for all the things going right in my life. My first thought is what did I do wrong and why it’s all my fault. It’s probably a bit narcissistic to think everything is about me. ๐Ÿ™‚ All jokes aside, it’s why developing and maintaining a gratitude mindset is important to me.

What I am Thankful for this Thanksgiving

What I am Thankful for This Thanksgiving

November 23, 2015 by Tanya // 2 Comments

Thanksgiving is almost here. I’ve got my stretchy Thanksgiving pants ready to go, so I can stuff myself silly with … well, stuffing. ๐Ÿ™‚ Before I put myself into a food coma, I wanted to share with you what I am thankful for this Thanksgiving. I consider myself to be a grateful person, but I don’t always take the time to express my gratitude or give thanks for my blessings as I should. It’s why one of my annual Thanksgiving rituals is to write a list of all the things I am grateful for in my life.

Black Friday Money Saving Tools, Tips and Apps

November 19, 2015 by Tanya // 4 Comments

The holiday season is officially upon us, folks. Thanksgiving is next week and millions are gearing up to not only stuff their faces with turkey and pumpkin pie, but also to shop until they drop on Black Friday. I won’t be venturing out on Black Friday, mostly because I have a date with my sofa and Max, and we plan to slip into another food coma. My Thanksgiving eating is a serious, two-day love affair, and no sale can compete with it! But I know many consider Black Friday a family tradition that they look forward to every year. Done right, it can be an epic adventure with victorious tales of finding good parking and short checkout lines and the happiest of endings with money saved and great gifts purchased. I’ve put together a few guidelines and some tools and apps to help you win on Black Friday.
