Whoa. February is almost at an end. It is the shortest month, but it still flew by. It was a weird weather month in Southern California, a place that doesn’t experience “weather” in a traditional sense. Sunny and warm must get so boring for the meteorologists. This month it was really cold, then hot (like 90 degrees hot) with a little rain mixed in. I went from adding an extra blanket to my bed to digging out my shorts. I know: boo-hoo.
Good news bloggers: Your Twitter share counts are back. I’m taking a break from my normal mindful living/spending posts to focus on social media today because this is big news for my blogging friends. Some of you may have noticed your Twitter share counts disappeared from your social sharing apps in October 2015. Twitter, in their infinite wisdom — NOT — decided Twitter share counts should go the way of the dinosaur and become extinct for a variety of not-so-great reasons. One reason was because the counts weren’t 100% accurate (which no one assumed) and they instead encouraged you to use Gnip, a paid service if you wanted accurate information. Oh, did I mention who owns Gnip? You got it – Twitter.
Happy President’s Day, everyone! I know many of you have the day off. Sadly, I do not. Well, I could since I’m a #GirlBoss but this boss needs to work today, which is fine by me. Heading into this week, I knew my plate was full and blogging both here and at Eat Laugh Purr would be a struggle. Thus, I faced a choice on Sunday: to give myself some needed downtime to prepare for a busy week or write posts. Old Tanya would have wailed and beat her fist against her chest (Kidding! I’m dramatic but not that dramatic) while New Tanya passed her first test by choosing to honor her focus word and listen.
I like to pretend that I am crafty, like Martha Stewart crafty. In my daydreams, all these wonderful projects that I envision come magically into existence, and everyone pins them, turning me into a DIY Goddess. In the real world, my crafts skills are on pare with most 5 year-olds. 🙂 But I keep trying and looking for simple, no-fail projects, like this one. This easy 5 minute love candle holder is a great gift for your sweetheart, whether it’s for Valentine’s Day, your anniversary or just because.
Focus words have become the rage and I imagine the reasoning behind choosing one varies, but for me, my focus word represents strength, hope and most importantly, purpose. It fuels every goal, dream and wish that I have for this year and beyond. Many good, strong words were considered, like love, abundance, joy, creativity, freedom, fierce, fearlessness and so on. Their spirit resonated with me, but none felt quite right; the connection or kinship wasn’t there. They were too bold, almost overwhelming in scope. So I did what one of my mentors taught me to do when facing a choice: I got quiet and listened.
I’m not gonna lie, folks, I’m really pumped up about today’s post. Since launching A Mindful Migration, I’ve made some new buddies, including the totally awesome, funny and fellow book aficionado, Jana from Jana Says. Every month, she hosts a Show Us Your Books link-up where you can share what books you’ve read the previous month. I read every single post in the link-up last month and it’s not an exaggeration when I say my reading list is now bigger than me! And I love it! I am so grateful to connect with other readers who love books as much as I do and offer such great recommendations.
