March Recap: The Not Good But Good Month

March Recap: The Not Good But Good Month

April 6, 2017 by Tanya // 16 Comments

I’m back and feeling better after my lovely (not) bout with the stomach flu. Thanks to everyone for their well wishes and advice. Stomach flu is no joke and it made me very happy to bid it adieu. Of course, now I’m playing catch-up and all I really want to do is sleep and read. And snuggle with the Max Man. He seems to want to do the same as he now takes his daily naps (morning, noon and night) in bed versus in his cat tower or by the patio doors. He’s trying to tempt me to join him. I won’t lie: sometimes temptation wins. 😀

March Highlights and Lowlights

March was overall a good month, except for the end of the month. That I wasn’t so great. I spent most of it in bed or in the bathroom and that’s all I’m going to say about it!

Pool Area Work Makes Tanya Crabby

I have no doubt that whatever work they are doing is necessary and important. But … and there is always a but … it’s loud. Like really loud. And they start early in the morning with all their drilling and hammering. It echoes terribly, which makes sleeping in a no-go and really hard for a work-at-home gal to concentrate.
pool construction

My exercise has also become non-existent since they closed the pool area too. Don’t know they know how hard it is for me even exercise in the first place? Why do they hate me? WHY????

A Good Read for Book Club

This month we read Dark Matter by Blake Crouch for book club. I’ll review it in my Show Us Your Books post on April 11. But I’ll give you a hint: I loved it! Overall, everyone liked it. The one who probably liked it the least is the one who is probably the most literal, so she was trying to make the science work. My stance is roll with it. Plus, I wanna believe. 😀

We met again at Green Tomato Grill and this time I actually tried the fried green tomatoes which were quite tasty and something I have never been able to successfully make on my own (been mildly obsessed with them since I read in Fried Green Tomatoes in high school). I also tried their tomato herb soup, which I found okay. It was a little greasy. But everything else has been delicious thus far.

Glorious, Glorious Easter Candy

People always seems to get excited about Halloween candy but I prefer Easter candy. Reeses Peanut Butter Eggs (which they seem to now make for all holidays) and Cadbury Mini Eggs are the best. The very, very best! One of my friends taught me to store my peanut butter eggs in the freezer. They don’t freeze solid, so you can grab one straight from the freezer and chow down. And they taste so much better! Plus, out of sight, out of mind too. 😀
Easter Candy

I always buy a bag of Cadbury Mini Eggs every Easter. They are one of my favorite candies, PERIOD. Instead of eating them by the fistful, I made these wonderful Cadbury Mini Egg Blondies, which I graciously shared to avoiding eating them all myself. Look at how kind and selfless I can be! LOL! They are as delicious as they look and really easy to make too. You can get the recipe at my sister site.

What I’ve Been Making and Eating

The stomach flu took me out for a good two weeks so I didn’t get a chance to try as many new recipes as I normally do. But still I shared one of my go-to lunches, Sonoma Chicken Salad at Eat Laugh Purr. It’s light and healthy and tastes so good. I make this at least once a month! I also made some delicious Blueberry Cream Cheese Muffins that I’ve been enjoying all month long. They freeze and reheat beautifully!

I Hate Spring Cleaning

But I’m putting on my big girl pants and doing it anyway. It does feel good to organize things and clean out the clutter. While I’m not a hoarder, I sometimes keep things instead of dealing with them, which is why I have way too many overflowing junk drawers. But I’m not allowing myself to do that any longer because my clutter is getting out of hand. So I’m slowly going through my apartment, one area at a time, and eliminating things that I no longer use to either donate or throw (if it’s no longer usable). I’ve tackled my bedroom, which was one of the easier areas, and now have to tackle some harder areas, like my make-up drawer, desk and kitchen. Ugh.

Max is the kind of cat that likes to help. Or supervise. Here he is making sure the dresser drawer has been properly cleaned and remains a comfortable napping spot for him.

Favorite Funny Memes

Just a few of my favorite pet memes. These are my happy place and where I go when the world seem depressing and ugly. I spend a lot of time here.

The stomach flu is the WORST! I’m sorry you had to go through that. I have empathy regarding the construction too. That was one bad thing about freelancing is that all the lawn and home work around the neighborhood occurred during the week and it could be so hard to concentrate, especially in the summer when it was hot and I had to open the windows.

It seems like such a small thing but construction noise can be so loud and distracting. It drives me nuts some days and I am going to be stuck with the noise for a long time. Beyond what they are doing in my courtyard, there are major construction projects right across the street. Their jack-hammering last summer was terrible!

I’m glad you’re feeling better. The stomach flu is so, so terrible!
Bummer about the pool area! Maybe take that exercise time and use it to purge the closets/drawers/etc.? Haha. I wish we had a pool area…….. lol!

I should fill my extra time with some productive, like cleaning. But I know me — I won’t! LOL! I love having a pool and can’t wait until I can use it again!

Thanks and I hope you like them. They normally start working around 7:30 AM, which I know is not super early for many people. But I am a night owl and make my own hours, so it is early for me!

OMG, that is so funny about kissing your cat so much you think you are going to cough up a hairball 🙂 Yup, guilty as charged!

Thanks! I dread spring cleaning too. And normally I don’t do a great job with it but this year I’m taking it real serious and going through everything. I want to get rid of all the crap that I’ve held onto for some odd reason or another. Fried green tomatoes are one of my favorites foods that I cannot make. At all! I love the German Shepherd meme too. It’s what happens whenever I try to take a picture of Max. Or myself for that matter!

I know I have to tackle spring cleaning. Fortunately the weather seems to agree that it is not fun or something I need to do immediately. But I’ll get to it.

I’m glad you’re feeling better but I’m sorry about the pool work. Construction sucks.

Also, those life and adulting memes are so, so accurate.

I’ve actually been surprised by how diligent I’ve been with my spring cleaning overall. Normally I get phantom big toe pains that somehow keep me from doing it. LOL! I wish those adulting memes weren’t my life, but they are. So very spot-on.

Glad to hear you’re feeling better! I made your Sonoma Chicken Salad a couple of weeks ago and it was a hit with the family! I’ve heard good things about Dark Matter. It’s been on my to read list for awhile. Our two cats are always on the kitchen counters and table, as much as I try to keep them off. I tell the kids that we’ve probably eaten enough hair to make a hair ball! LOL!! Have a great weekend!

I’m so glad your family enjoyed the Sonoma Chicken Salad. It is one of my favorites and I make it at least once a month. Max knows he is not permitted on the kitchen counter. It is basically the one place he not supposed to go. We have an unspoken agreement that I will ignore any evidence that he goes up there at night, so why he decided to hangout there midday in front of me — I don’t know. Cat logic is weird!
