June has been a bit of rough month news-wise. From Brock Turner to Orlando to Donald Trump to Brexit, there seems to be no shortage of bad news or signs of a pending apocalypse. It’s enough to turn anyone’s smile upside down. I’ve spent a lot of time surfing the various news site to stay abreast of the latest happenings, which may have been a mistake. Not that I want to be uninformed, but sometimes you have to turn off the news and take a break.
I Just Wanna Smile and Laugh
There is so much drama in the world right now. It can suck the life out of you if you let it. Thankfully, my personal month was more low-key for which I am very grateful. Let’s recap!
Funny Cat Memes
Oh cat memes: How I love thee.
I can relate to every single one, although I feel somewhat bad about having more pics of Max than my family. In my defense, Max blogs over at Eat Laugh Purr, so I need to take pictures of him. #SorryNotSorry. And Feline Paralysis is real, people. So very real.
Just to Prove that I also Like Doggies
Doggies are cool. Ummmm … please don’t tell Max I said that.

Oh, Max
It was time for another rescue mission. The dastardly sofa had kidnapped all of Max’s toys and it was up to Mama to free them.
Days later the sofa has recaptured most of his prisoners. Sigh.
Flowers. Dying. Must. Save. Or. Not.
Listen, I’ve always been honest about my black thumb. I am a plant serial killer. Period. I try, really I do. But my stupid impatiens are really struggling with their yellow leaves and scrawny stalks. According to my Mom, impatiens have been having some issues in recent years, so I’ve decided that I’m not to blame. This time it’s them, not me. Or at least that is my story.
If you know any plant (preferably flowers) that does well with partial sun (about 4-5 hours of afternoon sun) and lots of neglect, then let me know.
What I’m Working On
This month I wrapped up a really fun project and helped launch a new website, Girlfriends’ Guide to Living. I love the concept behind the site, creating a network of virtual girlfriends to support one another. I see a lot of lifestyle blogs promote that ideal but then be rather cliqueish. Jenn is working hard to create an inclusive, positive community where women can find support and share their wisdom too. Go visit Girlfriends’ Guide to Living and add to your must-read list. If your website needs a makeover or you’re starting from scratch, letβs chat. Iβd love to help bring your vision to life.
Rooftop Brunch
I hosted a rooftop brunch for a few of my friends. Thankfully, it was a nice day and everything turned out great. #HumbleBrag I made cheesecake french toast with strawberry sauce and candied bacon (and forgot to take pics). Plus we also noshed on spicy shrimp and sausage skewers over creamy parmesan polenta with vegetable skewers.
The grand finale was my favorite fruit pizza.
What I’m Eating
June was a big grilling month for me. I’m actually really new to grilling but I’m really liking it. Hamburgers may seem like they need no recipe but I added a flavorful spice mix that makes sooooooo good. And FYI β I don’t hamburgers and I really love these bad boys. I also made some pineapple chicken skewers. They turned out so juicy and just love the combination of pineapple and chicken.

Hello, July
July is my birthday month and I’m actually looking forward to it. Last year, I wasn’t. At all. I turned 40, which creates mixed emotions in a normal person, but for a person suffering with depression, it was a real downer. This year I’m approaching my birthday with enthusiasm (most days) and planning a few special things to help celebrate surviving 40 years on this great, crazy planet.
What was the best thing that happened to you in June?
Tanya
Happy birthday to you!! Last night I just had a grilled burger that was SO good I had to ask for the recipe. Bad news: all he added to the burger was salt………and butter. Not at all good for the waistline, but it was so yummy that I’m just going to HAVE to start making burgers like this at home. π
Yay for cat memes!! Feline paralysis is a real thing, yo π That website design looks awesome Tanya! I speak from experience and say that you are such a fabulous designer; great job my friend!
Thanks for sharing my post π Cheers to an early Happy Birthday!
thanks for the mention!!
i am the worst when it comes to plants. i always kill them π
there’s way too much going on right now; i almost want to never turn on tv or go onto social media because of the awfulness going on. it is disgusting how humanity can be so poisonous π
In my house we call Feline Paralysis “Cat Lap” and it is a legitimate reason to not have to make dinner…at least until the cat gets up.
OMG so you did do Jen’s website!! I recommended her to you but that was the last I heard. It looks awesome! Uh, BTW long beach is NOT that far away if you need someone else to come over and eat your cooking! π Hope July is a great month for you and thanks for the mention!
