I can’t believe we’re already saying farewell to January. It’s always such a strange month to me. It both moves slow in comparison to the hustle and bustle of December, while also disappearing faster than Max can gobble a bowl full of kibble. It seems like I never accomplish everything I intended, but that’s life, right? Having plans and to-do’s, then being flexible enough to adapt to change and opportunity. Sometimes I am really good at this and other times I can be a bit stubborn about change. Work in progress, thy name is Tanya.
One thing I did accomplish is figuring out my routine for A Mindful Migration. Creating content for two blogs takes a lot of coordination and effort and having some systems are a must, including a post/content schedule. Thus, every last Thursday of the month, you can expect a monthly wrap-up/round-up here at A Mindful Migration.
What’s New with Tanya
Here are a few things that I’m currently loving and enjoying.
Don’t Tell Max but I Love these Cat Memes
He accuses me of cheating on him when he catches me admiring felines online. ๐
Cats lure you in with those sweet, beguiling eyes, then bam! They give you a love nip, but I don’t mind. I firmly believe ALL cats love me, even though I bear scars that prove otherwise.
Max LOVES plastics bags. It drives me nuts.
Max would accuse me of more frequently waking him up to say “hi” versus him doing it to me.
He is not lying.

I Can’t Wait to See This Movie!
Calling all Key and Peele fans! They have a movie coming out this Spring and it looks hilarious. Due to some swearing in the trailer, this is NSFW. Bonus points to those who understand why they named the movie Keanu. ๐ If you don’t know, ask me in the comments and I’ll tell you why.
And yes, I am aware that everything has been cat-focused thus far. I never denied being a crazy cat lady!
What I’m Watching
I finally saw the latest Star Wars movie. Overall, I liked it. It was much, much better than the prequels, although that is a pretty low bar in my opinion. Seeing Han Solo and Chewbecca, made me choke-up, although I also liked Rey, Finn and Poe, which bodes well for the future. I’m so-so on Kylo Ren. He wasn’t as petulant as Anakin, but … hopefully he won’t be the kind of villain where he just really needs a time-out and hug. I would also encourage Disney to issue a blanket-wide memo regarding Death Stars. Spoiler alert: they don’t work. 7 movies and 3 death stars. Enough already!
I’m a big X-Files fan, but I haven’t watched the new episodes yet. There have been mixed reviews, so there is a part of me that feels torn about watching them. But I probably will. Did you watch? If so, what did you think?
What I’m Eating
This is my year of getting healthy but that doesn’t mean I still don’t enjoy delicious food! Pulled pork is one of my favorite sandwiches and these Hard Cider Pulled Pork Sandwiches are amazing. Amazing to eat. Amazingly simple to make.

I’ve got a quiet weekend ahead of me: some cleaning to do (ugh), books to read (yeah), cat to indulge (proud cat Mama!) and recipes to try (I’m making cookies!). What are your plans for the weekend?
Tanya
You’ve had a highly productive month, my friend! Big kudos for you! Very busy here too. I realized just this week what an insane year we’ve had and how much it’s affected my mental health. So this weekend I will be trying to take it easy and relax as much as possible. I’m also back on a “sans flour and sugar” diet, with the exception of tomorrow, because mom is coming to make Dough Boys. Can’t turn down these once or twice a year treats for nothin’!
LOVE the cat pics – we have to lock inside kitties up in the bathroom each night because if we don’t, the schedule an all-out kitty brawl at 4a.m. EVERY SINGLE MORNING. Arghh! But, ya gotta love ’em anyway. ๐ OH, and thanks for the mention!!! Much appreciated!
Good for you for taking it easy this weekend! We need all need some downtime to recharge those batteries. I can always tell when I burn myself out. ๐ What are dough boys? They sound intriguing and you know how I love carbs!
I only had two cats for a short period of time. Emeril and Mo did fight, but I only had them together at night one time. Emeril was not thrilled to share the bedroom with Mo. He was also quite irked that I allowed Mo to sleep in the bedroom with me, while he was stuck in the living room. So he would meow loudly to make me feel guilty and being the sucker I am, I would spend part of the night on the sofa with him. I sure miss that cat!
So funny about the cats! They can be so demanding at times. ๐ Dough boys are simply the most fab carb creation EVER. You take simple bread dough (or sweet roll dough) and take a golf ball sized chunk, spread it out thin and fry it in vegetable oil, flipping it when it turns golden brown. Then you butter it (or several) and wolf it down like a boss. I’m going to post on them next week as we made them when Rick was at work and he’s totally bummed that he missed out. They’re definitely NOT healthy, but a twice or so annual treat for us. ๐
OMG!!! Laurie!! How could I have NOT known about dough boys???? They sound utterly amazing and I’m so glad you’re going to post about them. I’ll probably lick the screen!
That second cat looks exactly like my cat. And my cat is a big asshole like that one, too.
Thanks so much for including my post! I’m so glad I’m getting to know you!!!
LOL! I love black and white cats. I really was hoping my next cat would be a black and white tuxedo cat, but I fell in love with a ginger instead. ๐ I’m so glad I’m getting to know you too, Jana!
Thanks for the mention. I greatly appreciate it!
You’re welcome, Laura Beth!
I loved the first episode of the new X Files, and the second one was okay. Kind of like how they did it in the old series from what I can tell; some will follow the main story line while others will be more encapsulated.
Thanks for the include! And tweeting! Means a lot!
Very interesting. A lot of people liked the second episode better than the first. I heard the 3rd episode is supposed to really good. I wanted to get caught up this weekend but it didn’t happen. Oh well. Sometimes it’s nice to binge a few episodes too!
I hate when my cat is all sweet and cuddly and then BAM, bites my hand all of sudden. I never see it coming. That sandwich looks amazing!! Thanks so much for the link love. And two blogs? Yeah, I couldn’t do it. ๐
Emeril tended to be more like Pepe. He liked attention but when he had enough – he let me know. ๐ Max is more laid back. When he’s had enough, he just leaves. No nipping or swatting at me. Of course, he has scratched me multiple times from playing because he likes to pounce on me and someone – who shall remain nameless – doesn’t always remember to trim his nails! The pulled pork is sooooooo good. It is super easy to make too, which is a bonus since I imagine your mornings are rushed since you’re back to 9-5. If you make the BBQ sauce in advance (or use premade), it literally takes 5 minutes to throw together.
