One of many things I love about blogging is all the connections you make and how helpful so many fellow bloggers and readers are. You can raise an alarm and people will answer your call. Well, I need your help! Don’t fear — I’m not in trouble, nothing nefarious or diabolical is going on. Nor am I one of those annoying people who say they need help but then only give cryptic hints. Nope. I’m going to share my questions/needs with everyone because you have the answers I seek.
3 Questions I Have for You. Please Advise!
Your suggestions are greatly appreciated!
What Vitamins Should I Take?
I’ve made no secret that depression took a huge toll on me. I’m in recovery and in the process of undoing a lot of damage because I didn’t take very good care of myself. I need a regular vitamin regimen but I struggle swallowing those stupid horse-sized pills. It’s been aggravated by the fact that a few months ago I choked on one, rather badly. Even though I now cut them into fourths, it remains a struggle for me. So what I’m interested in:
- Vitamins with an easy-to-swallow coating. Most seem to lack this.
- Vitamins that aren’t horse-pill sized
- Vitamin chewables
- Vitamin powder (that can be mixed in yogurt)
I’ve really been struggling to be consistent with taking my vitamins and my fear of choking has made it even worse. Max loves me a lot but he is terrible at the Heimlich maneuver. 😀
I feel like my best bet is to find a chewable or powder. In regards to powder, preferably something tasteless. As much as I love a good smoothie, I know myself. I won’t make one every day but I will mix some in my yogurt or cottage cheese.
To Instagram or Not To Instagram?
I have a Twitter and Pinterest account for both my blogs. A personal Facebook account. But no Instagram. A part of me doesn’t want to add more social media but … I do want to grow my blogs and know social media can be a huge asset. Instagram is a bit of an unknown to me, so I’d like to hear your thoughts. Why do you love it? Or hate it? Do you use it more for personal use or for your blog or both?
How To Fix My Uneven Skin Tone?
So going back to the whole depression thing … errr … I was shoddy about taking care of myself, including my skin. Let’s be real here, people. Some days it was a victory that I got out of bed and changed my underwear. 😀 But now I’m looking in the mirror again and I’m not real happy with what I’m seeing. My skin is still good in that I have a minimal amount of fine lines/wrinkles for a woman approaching 42. The bad news is that my skin tone has become quite uneven and I have the dreaded sun spots.
I see so many different products and DIY remedies that I feel a little overwhelmed. If you have uneven skin tone, what are some the remedies you use, both to mask and fix?
I appreciate your tips, suggestions and recommendations!
Tanya
girl, give me your email. I have a LOT to share about your questions 🙂
Thanks for your help, Kathy! So much great information to dig through and I appreciate your guidance!
As far as vitamins, I don’t have any suggestions. 🙁 I know vitamin d is supposed to be good for depression and the ones I have are tiny (well I think so anyway). I take 5,000mg of Lindburg Nutrition brand. Instagram is my favorite form of social media, but I just like looking at pictures. I don’t think it’s benefited my website at all though. You could always try it and if you don’t like it you don’t have to continue. For the sunspots, you could go to a dermatologist and get them frozen off with…I forget what they call it. It’s easy and painless.
I’ll take a look at the Lindburg Nutrition brand. There are so many different brands and it can be so hard to know which ones are good. You always here those horror stories where they test vitamins and they’re not even remotely close to what label indicates. I think I’m going to try Instagram. It sounds like fun, regardless of whether it helps me grow my website. Thanks for all your help!
Instagram is my main domain. It’s wonderful… you connect with so many people. I’ve heard others that really utilize it to grow their blogs too… I’m not that advanced – butI am picture person so I love it.
OHHHH LADY – I’m the one who says stay away from vitamins. Try & get all the stuff you need from food. & if you DO take a vitamin, dont do the ones with the RDA of like 10000%… seriously – I did that & it gave me a TOXIC reaction where I was in a neurologist office for 6 months with the effects of numb feet, hands, legs, tingling … it was HORRIBLE. Now, I cant take anything with vitamin B in it or it makes my symptoms flare back up. Be safe.
I am a picture person too, which is one of the reasons I was interested in Instagram. But I’m not real good at taking pictures of myself. Selfie Queen, I am not. That’s a good point about vitamins. I’ll definitely be careful. I’d honestly prefer to get my needed vitamins from food but I need a little extra help right now.
Smartypants chewable vitamins. I also take vitamin D because I’m deficient and magnesium. Neither are chewable.
I love instagram as a way to share what’s going on in my world. Not as a way to grow my blog.
I’m definitely going to check out Smartypants because chewables would be fantastic. Everyone seems to love Instagram, so I going to give it a shot. I’d love for it to help me grow my blog but as long as it’s fun, it really doesn’t matter in the end.
i don’t know anything about powder, but i take a multi vitamin (actually a prenatal right now, nope not pregnant) another pregnancy related vitamin (seriously, not pregnant) and then i take B12, but they are gummies. they are my favourite. i have been taking b12 for years, used to take tablets but i enjoy the gummy version after 5 horse sized pills. they do wonders for my energy and mood. i don’t know anything else about vitamins though 🙁 do share what you find out/decide on! i have heard amazing things about vitamin d, but i need to talk to my doctor about it first.
i would definitely take kathy up on her offer, girl has helped me in like, every area of my life. haha.
i love instagram. it’s my favourite. i like sharing pictures and i love seeing pictures. i hate twitter, deleted it. also deleted my blog facebook. i have a personal facebook, i only use it to talk to my family at home (and be in Erin’s book challenge group).
girl i have the same problem with my skin tone. spots, marks, scars, dark circles, redness. it really is so overwhelming and have no idea where to start.
sorry i’ve not been more helpful, but when you figure things out, do share!
LOL all your not pregnants! 😀 I did take Kathy up on her offer and will definitely share what I’ve learned and what’s working for me. Everyone seems to love Instagram, so I need to give a chance. I used to like Twitter a lot more but lately not so much. I never did Facebook for my blog, just personal. Pinterest is really the only I use regularly but that’s more personal again. I love pinning pictures of cats (you’re shocked, I know) and recipes because food. Nom. Nom. I will definitely share what’s working for me!
In regards to vitamins, the ones I take are horse-pill sized so I can’t help you there, but… Why don’t you head over to either Sprout’s or Whole Foods and talk to someone who works in the health section and let them know that you are looking for a good chewable and/or powder vitamin and I am sure that they could help you find what you are looking for!
As for Instagram, I love it! 🙂 I don’t really use it for my blog or to bring traffic to my blog or anything like that. I love photos and I love connecting with everyone through the lovely pictures that they post. It is perfect for introverts, lol 🙂 I like Instagram way more than Twitter.
That’s a good idea. I’m Sprouts every week so I should chat with someone and get their feedback. It’s decided — I’m going to do Instagram. It sounds like fun and if it’s not — well, I can quit! 😀
I take a gummy multivitamin (Centrum or Vita-something). I’ve just been told I also need to take iron and Vitamin D.
I have the uneven skin tone and sun spots as well. Please let me know if you find out anything! I am not a makeup/beauty person at all!
As for Instagram…..it’s my favorite social media. I’ve gotten some great opportunities through it. I’m not sure my readership has increased though. I just like sharing the food I eat/cook, family fun, books I’m reading etc. I think you’d enjoy it if you did do it…..hey, even Max can have his own account!! LOL!
I have to take a closer look at the gummi multivitamins. They are apparently more than I realized, which is nice! Ugh. Those sun spots and uneven skin tone are the worst. I will definitely let everyone know what works (hopefully) for me. Instagram is something I will hopefully add in the next week or so. And Max would love his own account so he can constantly meow about how awesome he is! LOL!
They have gummy vitamins! Although I will say one of my beefs with vitamins in general is that they frequently overload you with stuff you don’t even need. Megadoses like 200% or more. I try to pick things that are closer to 100% or less, but even then it really depends on your diet. Some people eat healthy enough that a vitamin is just extra junk they don’t need whereas others, like myself, are frequently low on iron and calcium. The good news is that most vitamins are water soluble so if you get extra you’ll just pee it out. But A, D, E, and K are all fat soluble and will build up in your body, so it’s better not to get too crazy with those.
That is probably way too much information, but what I’d really recommend is seeing your primary care physician and having them test you. My last general check up, the doctor said I was mostly fine, but I was low on Vitamin B – so now I know what to get extra of and I don’t have to waste time on 10 different supplements.
Social media – I don’t think you’re missing a whole lot by not having Instagram BUT I’ve also never mastered the art of social media promotion, so I’m not a good resource for that. For personal use, I really enjoy flipping through pretty scenery pictures from National Geographic and NASA and a couple different comics, but in general I feel like it’s less “social” because it’s not a good forum for conversation. It’s mostly just “you posted a pretty picture, so I hearted it.”
Oh and good for you! I’m so glad you’re fighting to take back control from your depression and take positive steps to make your life better. I can’t imagine how hard it must be. I hope you get some useful resources from your commenters!
My Instagram is 100% for my randomness and not intended to grow my blog. So, you can imagine, there are lots of pictures of fur babies and books. That being said, I have connected with new-to-me blogs and bloggers through ig.
