I’m in a mood. A silly mood. Okay, not really. I’m actually feeling grumpy but I want to feel silly and lighthearted and goofy. Grumpy Cat may amuse me, although Max is still the feline that reigns supreme around here, I don’t like being cranky. So whenever I turn grumpy and no one wants to listen to me whine about dumb stuff (like Max puking last Saturday), I go to Pinterest and look at animals and memes. Obviously, I am easily amused.
5 Things I Do to Find My Happy Place Again
I like real happiness, not manufactured happiness or the fake-it-until-you-make-it happiness, but pure happiness where I no longer feel the weight of the world on my shoulders. Or worry about whether Emperor Baby Fists will only get one scoop of ice cream for dessert and accidentally on purpose nuke California for being full of huge, blue liberal snowflakes who don’t understand his macho locker room talk and enjoy Mexican food made by Mexicans. ? See, just writing that makes me feel a bit happier.
Hug a Cat. Smooch a Cat. Pet a Cat. And Scratches Fade.
Now Max is a good boy. All his scratches on me are accidental. The scratches on my bench are not. A stern Mama would probably not just curl into a ball and whimper over them but I’m not made of stern-stuff. I’m more full of fluff. Or perhaps potatoes. Regardless, when I’m unhappy, sad, cranky, moody, upset, weepy, miserable, angry, full-on crazy — Max always makes me feel better. Not because he’s a dog who will come running to soothe any hurts when called (as all good dogs should do) but because he is indifferent and makes me beg for attention. So when he chooses to snuggle, I know it’s because he truly wants to be next to a seething, weepy, crazy person and not because he has Good Boy DNA.
Max likes to snuggle with me while I read, which makes me so happy, even though he has a Jesus take the wheel look on his face.
Watch Something Hilarious
I find funny in books sometimes rubs me the wrong way, whereas I am less irritated by silliness in movies. I can’t explain this. This is just something one accepts. So when I’m feeling blue or simply want to get my laugh on, I watch something funny. And not something classy funny, like a Jennifer Anniston movie. Nope. I watch something full of stupid, potty humor and fart jokes because stinky is just how I apparently roll.
Some of you are laughing with me, whether you want to admit it or not. Others of you have lost a teeny tiny bit of respect for me. That’s cool. I accept that as a reasonable outcome.
Plan a Trip or Special Purchase
Now this is not advocating mindless spending or a YOLO lifestyle where you treat hurts with prizes. This is instead planning for something to look forward to in the future that distracts you and occupies your mind with something pleasant. In fact, I strongly recommend people avoid getting in the habit of treating themselves with food or stuff to feel better when upset (hello debt and thunder thighs), but to instead think about something you truly want for yourself, whether it’s a vacation or a pair of new flip flops. I research, I admire, I dream and forget about what’s making me feel bad and look forward to my new shoes or trip instead.
Stare at Cute Animal Pictures until You Feel Mushy Inside
Seriously, how can you not feel better after looking at these?
You’re welcome.
Funny Memes to the Rescue
Listen, somebody spends a lot of time making these. The least you can do is enjoy them.
You could easily replace Miami with California and Canada with Minnesota and it would still be true! It remains a point of pride with me that I never (or very rarely) turn the heat on.
I don’t currently do this but I might just start.
It feels as though I ask for this timeout a lot and it started on January 20, 2017.
Funny certainly makes me laugh and can get me out of a dark mood but what truly makes me feel better is hope. And the above gives me hope: there are still plenty of good, human beings in this world who care and help one another out because it’s what decent people do.
Peace on Earth; Goodwill to Bunnies (and People too)
So let’s all be decent people and spread some cheer because you never know who’s feeling a little cranky and could use a good laugh or some hope.
Happy Easter to those who celebrate and if you’re still in need of some recipe inspiration for your celebration, I’ve got some yummy recommendations for you! I already got a jumpstart on my celebration and made lemon bars … for me. #SorryNotSorry
What do you do when you’re feeling grumpy?
Tanya
we totally dont deserve animals! the only thing I follow on FB now is UPS dogs because they’re full of dogs and waggy tails and awesomeness.
We really don’t deserve but thank goodness they still want us. I’m really not on Facebook much but that sounds like the best page ever!
I have certain youtube channels & funny pages that I go to when I need a good laugh too. You gotta find something to bring a smile on your face when the glums take over.
& yes, loving on a fur baby ALWAYYYYYYS makes a day better.
Yup, you really do because we all get blue and knowing what makes us feel better helps so much. Fur babies truly are the best. The very, very best!
I love the picture of the older gentleman helping the young man. Perfection.
Also… animals are amazing and can be the cure to pretty much any problem ever.
I feel ya on the crankies. I’ve been feeling it too lately. Hopefully we both snap out of it soon.
Happy Easter!
Me too, Audrey. Seeing people do good just because truly brightens my day. Animals are the best cure to any ailment. Max is always my go-to, whether he likes it or not! LOL! Yeah, I’m not sure why I’ve been so cranky but I’m in an off mood and I don’t like it. Here’s to both us getting our happy back asap!
Memes always make me laugh.
Me too. I always seek them out when I’m feeling blue or cranky.
Awe that tie meme made me tear up. I love raunchy humor too. Have you seen Girls Trip yet? It’s so funny and raunchy. I love Tiffany Haddish!
The tie meme is great. Faith in humanity restored! ๐ No, I haven’t seen Girls Trip yet and I’ve heard such good things about it. I’ve actually been holding off a bit because now my expectations are almost too high. And I adore Tiffany Haddish. She is a national treasure!
I don’t think I have ever watched Big Momma’s House. When it first came out Dumb and Dumber was a fave….though I haven’t seen it it in ages! When I’m grumpy, snuggling with one of my cats is such a mood booster. Even better if there’s a good book or television show. And cute animal pics always help too!
I love Dumb and Dumber and it’s one of my favorite laugh out loud movies. Big Momma’s House is dumb and crude and makes me laugh too. ๐ Snuggling with cats is such a mood booster — nothing beats a loud purr! And I love reading with Max snuggled up to next to me. That’s my real happy place!
When I am grumpy, I watch tv. Anything that is super distracting!
Happy Easter to you and Max!! ๐
TV is really good, although sometimes for me, it’s not enough of a distraction so then I need to read instead. Happy Easter to you and your family too!
