February Round-Up: The Things I Loved

February 25, 2016 by Tanya // 11 Comments

Whoa. February is almost at an end. It is the shortest month, but it still flew by. It was a weird weather month in Southern California, a place that doesn’t experience “weather” in a traditional sense. Sunny and warm must get so boring for the meteorologists. This month it was really cold, then hot (like 90 degrees hot) with a little rain mixed in. I went from adding an extra blanket to my bed to digging out my shorts. I know: boo-hoo.

What’s New with Tanya this Month

It may have been a weather roller coaster in LA, but my life was not so chaotic, thankfully. Busy, but with no stomach-churning drop-offs. Beyond work, here are a few of things that I amused me this month.

I Became Addicted to Love Meow

Yup, the crazy cat lady found Love Meow, a site dedicated to cats with lots of inspiring (and some sad) stories too. I fell in love with these two ginger brothers who are inseparable.

Max Hates Valentine’s Day

Max was a stellar Valentine who loved snuggle-time with his Mama until the dreaded Valentine Day scarf made an appearance.

He was the best Valentine; he may not have felt the same way about me.

My Favorite Inspiring Quote

In a world where we seem to increasingly smother our own individuality to fit in, we need to take a page from Mr. Wilde.

Be Yourself; Everyone Else is Taken by Oscar Wilde

I Wanted but Failed to Believe in the X-Files

It seems like there have been some mixed feelings to the X-Files revival. I see a lot of love but also a lot of hate from fans. I’m always a little uneasy when they revive a show because some things are best left alone. I have seen the first 3 episodes and really enjoyed Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster. It was a funny, monster of the week episode where Mulder finally came face-to-face with a monster. It was a little odd-ball with lots of easter eggs for long-time fans. I’ve heard episode #4 is good, then it goes downhill. I will watch the remaining three episodes, less out of desire and more grim determination to see it through. The original X-Files didn’t have the best ending, nor does it sound like this does either.

I Ate Good with these Protein Energy Bites

One of my goals this year is to get healthy, for real. I’m taking a more balanced approach this time versus my normal do or die version, which is always an epic fail. These chocolate peanut butter protein bites are helping me stay true to my get healthy goal while also satisfying my sweet tooth.

I Ate Bad with these Supreme Chocolate Chip Cookies

These were my Valentine’s Day treat and were worth every single calorie. They also freeze beautifully too, so when the urge for a crisp, warm cookie strikes you, all you have to do is grab one from your freezer. This is also dangerous, but I’ve been well-behaved. Mostly.

Ready or Not — Here Comes March!

I don’t have any big plans for March thus far. We celebrate Easter in March this year, so I am working on some Easter recipes for my sister blog, Eat Laugh Purr. I’ve also been toying with the idea of doing some spring cleaning. I’m trying to be more mature about keeping my apartment tidy. I still hate dusting though. ๐Ÿ™‚

How did February treat you? What was the best thing that happened to you?

I made grain free chocolate chip cookies over the weekend and holy crap, were they amazing. I love all kinds of cookies but chocolate chip are a fail safe.

Those pictures of the cats are sooooooo cute, oh my gosh!!!! Absolutely adorable ๐Ÿ™‚ Never got into X-Files so I can’t comment on that, but Elementary is still so, so good!

Thanks for the mention Tanya! xo!

They look like they could be Max’s siblings. I just want to smooch all over them! I loved the X-Files, so it seriously bums me that the shows weren’t amazing but six episodes isn’t much time either. I feel like they tried to pack too much into them. I’m with you on the Elementary love and am so into Sherlock’s relationship with his father.

I’m afraid of making even “healthy” snacks like that because I would eat too many of them! Best to just keep all that shizz out of the hizzy. ๐Ÿ™‚ I think show revivals are pretty risky because people get so attached to the end of the series, even if it didn’t end great. It settles in your mind, and you can use your own imagination on how things progressed in the future. It really can mess with things. Did they learn nothing from “A Very Brady Christmas?”

LOL! A Very Brady Christmas! Yup, I agree that revivals are definitely risky business. There have been so many lately too. I guess they are running out of ideas? Yeah, I have to be careful with these healthy snacks too. I keep them frozen, which helps. It slows me down and gives me time to make sure that A) I really need the snack and B) Can’t easily eat with abandon.

Those Valentine cookies still look SO yummy to me! Feb was good. I am TIRED. All of the CRAP from last year is finally catching up with me mentally, you know? It’s finally hitting me and I’m allowing myself to deal, and I’m just tired. So I’m trying to nap when I need it and just not stress out about the house or anything else. Been working hard on calorie counting in moderation this last week or two and it’s working. I’m thinking I seriously need a trip to a spa. ๐Ÿ™‚

I hear you, Laurie! You definitely need to give yourself the space to deal and recuperate. I wished we lived closer (and ironically did before I knew you) – we’d hit that spa together, my friend!
