Coffee Talk: What's New with Me

Coffee Talk: What’s New with Me

October 19, 2017 by Tanya // 16 Comments

Sorry for being rather hit-and-miss this month with blogging. It wasn’t my intent. I even had a post or two written and ready to go, but I never felt like pressing the publish button. I did, however, feel like commenting and visiting my favorite blogs but not being a blogger myself. And because it’s my blog, I get to do that! Yay for me!

I decided to ease back into blogging and just share what’s on my crazy mind, so let’s do this!

What I’m Reading

Ummmm … nothing. Seriously, I have not cracked open a new-to-me book this month. Instead I’ve been rereading some of my favorites to escape my book funk where nothing appeals to me, which makes me deeply cranky.

October books

Did I reread every single page? Nope. Just my favorite parts because that’s how I roll.

What I’m Watching

Is it just me or is the new Fall TV Season a bit of a dud? Gifted is decent. Ghosted has an interesting premise and actors I like, but it’s kind of a hot, nonsensical mess and I’m out after three episodes. And that’s pretty much all the new shows I sampled because nothing else looked good. Major bummer. I’m still watching Speechless and Supernatural because apparently I only watch shows that start with an “S”.

I am excited about a bunch of upcoming movies, like Thor: Ragnarok, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Pitch Perfect 3. But the movie I am most excited about doesn’t open until 2018 but they just dropped a new trailer.

In Wakanda, women are the warriors. Women are the scientists. Women are not the future; they are now. Equally important, this is a movie with prominently black characters who are not slaves or thugs. They are the heroes (and yes, bad guys too because goodness and badness is color blind). So. Excited.

What I’m Eating

I’ve been very well-behaved this month. No sweets until October 31 because Halloween. I’ve reduced my carb intake drastically, which has surprisingly been a bit easier than expected. Of course, this time I also set myself up to succeed because I began trimming my carb intake this summer, which helped me ease into living with less helpings of potatoes, pasta and bread without turning into a raving Carb-o-holic in withdrawal. I did not take pictures of everything I ate this month, but this is what I’m eating this week: hot and sour soup and this awesome one skillet lasagna.

Hot and Sour Soup
The hot and sour soup is from Rasa Malaysia. And I add a few chicken potstickers from Trader Joes to make it a bit more filling. For storing purposes, I keep the potstickers separate from the soup so they don’t get bloated. ๐Ÿ˜€

One Skillet Lasagna with Zoodles

This one skillet lasagna hails from Life Made Sweeter. It’s also my first zoodle recipe too. I love that you can really adjust the meat and veggies to your preference too. Sadly, it’s not the prettiest picture I’ve ever taken but it is quite tasty. And good for you!

What I’m Primal Screaming Over

Everything. Literally everything. Puerto Rico. California wildfires. Taking a knee (people, it’s not about troops; it is and has always been about racial inequality).

Donald Trump Meme
Racism. Alive and well in the good ‘ol USA.

Take the knee meme

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry over this man’s hypocrisy and/or obliviousness.

Trump saying he’s a patriot (hence all the knee shaming) while not acknowledging the deaths of four U.S. soldiers for days and days while he tweets about stupid stuff. Las Vegas. Harvey Weinstein. CHIP. Birth Control. Trumpcare. And please, once The Dotard of Covfefe signed those Executive Orders, it ceased to be Obamacare and became Trumpcare. Trump and the GOP own it now, so let’s call it what it is. Trumpcare is now in a death spiral. Trumpcare rates have risen. Trumpcare enrollment is down.

What I’m Laughing At

Because we all desperately need this.

cat meme

Everyone does this. Right? Right? Right? I mean Max and I have entire conversations and I’m not crazy. I am a crazy cat lady but I’m not crazy, crazy. Or that crazy.

Cat Meme

Someone, who shall remain nameless but is a mischievous ginger and 18 pounds of pep, likes to play with toilet paper. And eat it.

cat meme

This just kills me. Max is not a clothes thief. He has, however, tossed everything out of my underwear drawer so he could nap in it and rolled two potatoes off the kitchen table and into the bathroom, so he’s still special.

meme

This is likely true. And such an adorable picture.

Dog Meme

I literally laughed for like 15 minutes when I saw this. I also am easily amused.

dog meme

I would not be able to resist that face. He would get all the food. All. The. Food.

What I’m Inspired By

I am angry and appalled by the Harvey Weinstein scandal. I even angrier and more horrified by stories shared on social media as part of the #MeToo campaign. I also felt deeply ashamed by how often I saw some stories as the unfortunate reality of the world we live in. That I had normalized sexual harassment to the point where I didn’t always recognize it as such. I also felt deeply inspired by the support, bravery and honesty of the women (and men too) who shared their stories. And I am grateful and hopeful that by having these much needed conversations, we can create real change. And until that day happens … remember …

They broke the wrong parts of me. They broke my wings and forgot I had claws.

I told you what’s new with me, now tell me what’s new with you!

Goldens are the happiest looking dogs. They always have that big grin on their face. And they look like mischief-makers, which my cat, Max, is so I think they would be buds. I’m glad you found a book to get you over your reading hump. I’m still stuck but that’s okay. Just rereading some faves.

Good stuff! I’m not really watching anything new, in fact, I’m going old school watching Everwood and a very young Chris Pratt. I need feel good tv right now so I’m cutting back on anything that is too heavy. Even This is Us is bugging me lately. Agree on politics and harvey. I’m taking a major break from social media because I haven’t been sleeping. I’m sure all this stuff doesn’t help. I totally talk to my cat!

I hear you, Tonya! I need feel good TV and books right now too. Everything has got me down and I need something to lift me up. I gave up on This is Us too. I love Randall and his family but it’s become more of a chore lately. I’m glad you talk to Pepe too!

The idiot on the flag slays me. Wearing a t-shirt that says he stands for the anthem and then sits on an actual American flag. Proof that people just don’t get it. My hopes weren’t high for the Fall TV shows to begin with and most have lived up to my expectations. So I keep watching Murder She Wrote reruns just to really prove that I am an old coot.

I need to start watching The Gifted! It’s been on my list since I first heard about it!
That picture of the moron sitting on the flag… sweet Jesus.
The cat that stole all the clothes is absolutely hilarious. That’s amazing. I’m laughing so hard about that! And the dog who caught his stub!!

I love Amy Acker and it’s been the best new show that I’ve watched this Fall, although the bar is low. The moron on the flag makes me laugh and cry. What an idiot! I would have died laughing if I had came across that sign. I wonder why the cat stole all those clothes. But again, cat. No one understands why a cat does what it does. ๐Ÿ˜€ The expression on the dog who caught his stub is priceless. He’s so proud!

With you on all the nonsense going on in the world. Every day it seems like there is something else to be pissed off about and it is truly overwhelming. And he has only been President for 9 MONTHS. How the bleep are we to get through the rest of his time in office???

Okay, I totally answer “I know” to my cat when he meows, ha, ha, ha #catmom

And how long are we supposed to wait for Elementary???? Don’t they know the season finale was ages ago and we need new episodes as soon as possible? ๐Ÿ™‚

It is so overwhelming and exhausting. And just thinking about 3 more years of this crap makes me want to move to Canada. I always tell Max I know (even when I don’t know) and yes, yes. And sometimes, when he’s really irritated with me and yowling (mostly when I’m being too pokey with setting out his meal) I say “tell me more”.

I don’t know when Elementary is coming back. Soon, I hope because I miss it. I need my Sherlock and Watson fix! NOW!

I always talk to my cats! We even have separate cat voices for each of them and comment in their voices as if they were talking……You are not crazy…..or I am too! I haven’t watched any new-to-me fall shows. I’ve had some library books come in so I feel compelled to read them, especially if they’re new releases and I know I won’t be able to renew them. Hope you get out of your reading slump soon!

LOL! I love that you guys have different cat voices for your cats. If I ever have two cats, I’m going to have different voices for them too! Still in my reading slump but I’m going to give it another try this weekend.

and YES i responded with ‘me too’ or actually i say ‘tell me all about it’ haha when my cats meow at me. they are talking to me, it would be rude to ignore them!
oh that golden retriever is beautiful. goldens are my favourite. i have a golden back home and sadly she is getting very old and the vet says it’s time for her to be put down, she’s in a lot of pain. it’s very heartbreaking, especially because she looks like that dog-happy all the time!

YAY! Another re-reader! Some people look at me strange when I say that I love rereading books but seriously — I love it. It’s like revisiting old friends. It would be rude to ignore our cats when they talk to us. And we would never, ever hurt their feelings! I am, however, willing to humiliate them by making them wear clothes. LOL!

I love goldens. They have such a happy, gentle disposition. I’m so sorry to hear about your golden back in Australia. It’s so tough to let them go but I know your baby was loved so deeply and had a great life here.
