Coffee Talk: What's New with Me, Winter Version

Coffee Talk: What’s New with Me, Winter Version

January 18, 2018 by Tanya // 14 Comments

Oh Winter. I like you a lot more living in LA than I did in Minnesota but you also confuse me. Like it being 80 degrees last weekend. Weird. And hot. But now cold … ish. Or at least my feet are always cold, which is apparently the first sign of old age. Sigh. I am turning into an old coot, although I haven’t gone full on Miss Cranky Pants yet and still am looking forward to a few things things this winter.

TV Shows I’m Eager to Watch

Some people aren’t big TV watchers but I love me some TV, normally. I admit this year seems a bit lacking, but there still are a few shows that I’m excited to watch. Supernatural returns tonight with a backdoor pilot for Wayward Sisters. I’ve watched Supernatural faithfully for 13 seasons and I’m super excited about the potential spinoff featuring some of the show’s favorite female characters.

I love the diversity (fun fact: Sterling K Brown played Gordon on the show) and the kickass females. And okay, the characters are based in Minnesota and South Dakota, right in my old home turf. ๐Ÿ˜€ Plus, vampires, werewolves, demons … oh my!

Another show I’m interested in checking out is The Alienist. Granted, I’ve seen so many dang previews for it that it feels like I’ve already seen the show.

The Alienist on TNT

I’m also excited about Elementary but that’s not returning until April.

Movies I Can’t Wait to See on the Big Screen

Movies are my jam! I’m fussy about which ones I see in theater though because it’s so expensive, which means it’s gotta be worth the moolah! And these two movies are absolutely worth it. My enthusiasm for Black Panther is already well-documented and I’m equally excited about a Wrinkle In Time, even though I haven’t read the books.

But I have mad respect for Ava DuVernay who is the first women of color to direct at $100M+ movie. Go Ava!

Books I’m Going to Devour

My TBR is always robust but I try to keep an eye out for releases from my favorite series too. If you’ve read any of my Booshelf posts, you know that I’m a huge fan of the In Death series. The latest one, Dark in Death (#46), is hitting bookshelves at the end of the month and I’ve already got the book on hold! I was a big fan of Find Her by Lisa Gardner and am ecstatic that she’s continuing Flora’s story in Look for Me. While still part of the D.D. Warren series, which I have not read beyond Find Her, Flora is who I’m most excited to see again. Next is Burn Bright from the Alpha and Omega series by Patricia Briggs. While I prefer the Mercy Thompson series slightly more, I definitely want to see the latest adventures of Charles and Anna. Yes, the cover is cheesier than a double cheeseburger.

Dark In Death by J.D. Robb, Look for Me by Lisa Gardner and Burn Bright by Patricia Briggs

Dark In Death is available on January 30, 2018; Look for Me is available on February 6, 2018; and Burn Bright is available March 6, 2018.

Winter Fun Stuff Planned

Honestly, I lead a pretty quiet life with my main man, Max.

Max

He likes to nap; I like to nap. He likes to eat; I like to eat. We complete each other. In between snuggles with Max, I have a couple of ladies brunches, movie/lunches and brother/sister-in-law visit scheduled over the next few months. So for me, that’s plenty because I am an introvert. And I don’t like people; I like cats.

Okay, I like some people … hopefully you … but I need quiet time. Otherwise I get grumpy. ๐Ÿ˜€

A Dose of Laughter and Inspiration

Listen, I know it’s been a tough start to the new year. But it’s okay. We’re strong. We’re resilient. Normally I’d share some of the food I’ve made or plan to make but these days my diet is pretty boring. I also won’t talk about the fact that I went off script for about three weeks and ate whatever I wanted. Sigh. I’m back on track, mostly. But I could use some laughter and inspiration and bet you could too.

Cat Meme

Ya know what? People are okay. Faith restored!

Cat Meme

I can relate to this more than I care to admit.

Ice cream tippy taps from tippytaps

This is seriously one of the best things in the world. That dog’s excitement just makes me smile, smile and smile. I’d buy you an ice cream cone, little doggie!

Now tell me, what are you looking forward to doing this winter?

Awe that dog just keeps on wiggling he is so excited. I got sucked into the Bachelor this year. Will I hold out til the end? TBD, but I’m totally willing to substitute my time with something more….uh, worthwhile? I am looking forward to whenever Amazon releases the series Jack Ryan because two words: John Krasinski!

I love that dog’s excited dance. He’s just so happy! I avoid reality TV because it’s so easy to get sucked into it and then I wonder why I’m watching XYZ. John Krasinski will make a great Jack Ryan and sounds so good!

I love a good animal story too. They renew my faith in mankind. I can’t decide whether to read Wrinkle in Time before I see the movie or not. Normally I prefer to read the book first but I’m not sure if I’ll get a chance to before the movie comes out. And I am not going to miss seeing this movie!

The Alienist intrigues me a bit. Twins today with A Wrinkle in Time!
Oh my gosh, that Socks tread!! I love him and Socks! “A street cat named Desiree” hahaha.
OMG if he hadn’t given that dog ice cream I was going to flip. LOL

Well … you’re still young. I got about 15 years or so on you. ๐Ÿ˜€ I enjoyed The Alienist but if I remember correctly you’re not into violent shows and this was fairly graphic for TV. YAY for a Wrinkle in Time! So excited! I laughed so hard at the “street cat named Desiree” too. So clever! And so kind to take in a stray cat — just warms this crazy cat lady’s heart! Yes! That dog! So adorable and I would buy him all the ice cream cones. ๐Ÿ˜€

Aw, the cat named Socks…so , so cute! I am on the fence about watching The Alienist, although I did read the book, but that was about 20 years ago (literally), and I remember after reading it, thinking WTF did I just read? So I am wondering about the television show and how that is going to go. I am definitely curious…

I never read The Alienist and decided to watch the show without reading the book first, which I generally don’t do. But figured what the heck. I liked it so far and will continue watching for now. But I can already see why your response was WTF! But I am a fan of the weird and strange. ๐Ÿ˜€

I want to see a Wrinkle In Time too. I plan on reading the book with my son after we finish The Lost Hero. I am so behind on TV. My DVR is packed with back episodes of Scandal and Real Housewives. I am so that cat with the pizza! LOL!

I love how you read books with your kids. I think that is so important to do! That cat is me. I keep saying I’m back on my diet and then I’m noshing on pizza or something naughty. Sigh.

My cat was a street cat and her name is Boots so obviously I’m in love with that story.

I’m SO looking forward to Caroline Kepnes’s new book. Also Julie Murphy’s. But I think they’re more spring/summer releases.

The only thing about winter I’m looking forward to is it being over.

I love that your cat is a former street cat because I have a huge soft spot for feral cats. So I’m behind — still haven’t read Dumplin’ and I wasn’t a fan of You. But I’d still be interested in checking Kepnes’s new book. LOL! When I lived in MN, the best thing about winter was when it was over. These days I don’t mind winter so much. ๐Ÿ˜‰
