Last month I didn’t participate in the SUYB link-up because GASP … I didn’t read anything in June. And to be completely honest, I didn’t read anything in July either. But I managed to read 1.5 books this past weekend so … yay Tanya! You go, girl! Get your read on! Seriously, I was a little worried that maybe a non-reader alien had possessed me, which is just rude. I mean if you’re going to possess me — be a reader, please! But I’m back, baby!
May Bookshelf: The Manly Man Month
I really don’t care “who” writes the book I’m reading, although I am trying to make a conscious effort to read books by people of color. But mostly I just care whether or not they write a great story versus which bathroom they use (because who cares?). I have noticed, however, that books written by women tend to be favored, which made this month stand out a bit as the men dominated. And wrote some damn good stories too.
April Bookshelf: The Unreliable Narrator Month
I have a love/hate relationship with unreliable narrators. Sometimes they make a story and sometimes … it’s annoying. This month, one worked for me and one really didn’t. And yes, I only read three books this month. I already feel awkward about this so let’s not dwell on that fact but instead note that 2 out of 3 books had unreliable narrators, which is still a majority. The romance book was also my favorite so all in all: it was a weird month.
March Bookshelf: I Got No Catchy Title Month
Whoa. Seriously, where does the time go because I swear yesterday was March’s Show Us Your Books Day, aka the best day of the month, now it’s already April’s turn. I must also confess that it surprised that I read only five books last month. It feels like I should have read more but apparently I merely thought about reading. Sometimes that happens, where I think I should read but decide to watch TV, snuggle with my cat or stare off into space and think about books instead. Yup, I’m an official #BookWeirdo
February Bookshelf: The All Right Month
Not to be confused with Alt-Right, okay? All right as in okay. Not delicious but satisfying. Because I’m not alt-right but I am a foodie who uses food metaphors to express how I feel. And now that I think about it: Books, food and cats are pretty much on my mind 24/7. Wait a minute! My mind is a glorious place to laze about and inhabit! And to think, I’ve been boo-hooing my crazy for years. My crazy is AWESOME!
January Bookshelf: The Murder, Mayhem and Mischief-Making Month
My cat, Max, is harassing me as I attempt to type this. He believes it is lunchtime; I believe it is typing time. You can guess who will win this battle! 😀 To be fair, I appreciate a cat who values food as much as I do. Plus, I also appreciate Max’s fondness for reading time (aka nap and snuggles time) because I definitely hit the books this month. And overall, I did good!
