I know what you’re thinking … Tanya, have you lost your mind (again)? Because you’re in LA. By the beach. It doesn’t snow there. And you are right. I mean about the snow in LA thing, not about me being crazy. Ahem. Anyway, it didn’t snow in California but it most definitely snowed in Minnesota during my unexpected trip back home.
That’s why you haven’t seen much of me around here. I had an uncle pass away and went back home for the funeral and to be with my family. While the visit was unplanned and the reason behind it difficult, it was great to spend some time with everyone too … except that it snowed. A lot. I mean a lot. Like 18 inches of snow.
In mid-April.
While I was there.
And it was 88 degrees in LA when I left. I was wearing shorts.
Not boots.
Oh, The Weather Outside is Frightful
Except, of course, it should have been nice. Or nice(ish). You know — mid-50’s with the grass starting to come back and the sun shining and all that jazz. But nope.
Minnesota, you don't impress me much! pic.twitter.com/o2LYlcZrsF

So in the midst of grieving and also celebrating my uncle’s life … we had to dig ourselves out of our homes. And to be fair, we were fortunate that the weather didn’t affect his funeral. He had a great turnout and the military service (21 gun salute, Taps and flag presentation) was very emotional. I’m so grateful to have been there, even if I shook my fist about the weather.
I also like to think my uncle was probably laughing at us as we cursed while shoveling snow and so on. He would have found the humor in that.
I also caught a cold. Seriously. What the F*(((&&OI)))*&^%^))*
Back to Normal(ish) Now
Who the heck knows what normal is these days? I can’t remember what normal feels like! Can you? I know my cold’s not normal. Miserable, then okay and finally good, which is normal. But then my cold decides it ain’t finished with me and I haven’t been able to stop coughing since Friday afternoon. Grrrrr…. or more like cough, cough, cough.
Anyhoo — I’m forging ahead with an annoying chronic cough, mostly caught up with work and back to blogging again (or at least commenting and apologies in advance if I leave an semi-incoherent comment that appears to be written by someone in a Nyquil induced haze. It most likely was).
Until the next drama happens …
Tanya
Sorry about your uncle. π well I guess the snow will make you appreciate Southern California weather a little more now? π
It most definitely did. Winter has never been a season I miss and it was so nice to come back to flip-flop weather!
Sorry about your uncle’s passing. A military funeral always just chokes me up instantly. Such a beautiful tribute.
The Spring this year is RIDICULOUSSSSSS!!!!! Or what they’re calling “Spring”… I’m calling it Sprinter π haha
It really is. It was the first time I’d experienced one and it was truly beautiful. Springter is the very best and I’m stealing it!
This April MN snow reminds me of a real life Long Winter (from the LHOP series). On the bright side, at least you go to leave and return to your warm weather.
Seriously, it’s crazy! But it was so nice to come back to California weather. Makes me appreciate it even more.
Sorry to hear about your uncle, Tanya π
Thanks, Mackenzie.
Man oh man. That’s some bad luck for you with the cold (sickness) and the cold (weather)! I’m so sorry about your uncle. I’m very glad the weather didn’t affect the funeral. And I’m glad you got a little extra time with family this spring- even if it was impeded by snow!!
Thanks, Audrey. I’m feeling better now and even though the circumstances weren’t great – it was really nice to see my family. I could have done without the 18 inches of snow though! π
So sorry for your loss. And the snow, of course. Sounds like some hijinks from above.
I think it was. π
Iβm so sorry to hear about your uncle. My condolences to you and your family. I cannot believe all that snow! As much as I complained this winter, I donβt think we very got that much snow!
Thanks, Nancy! I couldn’t believe they got all that snow while I was home. It was crazy!
