Sorry I haven’t been around much. It’s been a mix of low blogging mojo, insomnia, allergies (and medication drowsiness that somehow makes my insomnia worse) and hunting fleas (thanks Max) and flies (thanks Fall). It sounds so very dramatic but it’s not. Well, it is in my mind but in the real world – it ain’t no thing at all. ๐ And it’s finally starting to get under control … sort of. So I’m back. Sort of. I have zero ideas of my own but my buddy, Rebecca Jo from Knit by God’s Hand, recently posted this so … you know. Feel free to grab this for your blog as I’d love to learn 3 more things that you like and dislike too!
Things I Like to Give:
- Surprise gifts.
- Food (such as making a special meal or treat for you).
- Joy. I like to make people laugh and feel good.
Things I Like to Receive:
- Gifts (I like jewelry and hand bags, just saying).
- Cats (I would, generally speaking, like receiving cats, although it could be a potential hoarding issue at some point).
- Book recommendations (I actually prefer receiving recommendations than actual books because I like to decide which books earn a spot on my bookshelf).
Things I Hate that Many People Like:
- Friends and Seinfeld. Didn’t like them during Must-See TV or now.
- Traveling. Don’t get me wrong, there are definitely places I want to visit and I understand why people enjoy traveling, but I’d rather get a massage or facial or buy a fancy handbag or do something else … in most instances.
- Reality TV. Not a fan. Period.
Things I Love that Many People Hate:
- Grocery shopping. Not necessarily during peak hours, mind you, but I love seeing all the different products. I find it calming. But I also just love food.
- Cold offices. Most offices (and stores for that matter) are overly air-conditioned in the summer, which doesn’t bother this can’t-stand-the-heat girl one bit. Also, because I am complex (sort of), I don’t like actual cold weather (sub-zero temperatures) because BRRRRRR.
- Parentheses. I use them (a lot) and have zero regrets (typically) about my love for them. Sometimes I may (occasionally) use them incorrectly but I don’t care under most circumstances (unless you are someone I want to impress). To be fair, I don’t know anyone who actually hates parentheses, but I imagine my overuse of them probably drives some people nuts. ๐
Clothes I Find Uncomfortable:
- Thongs. I know, TMI. But seriously, super duper uncomfortable and I feel like they must have been created by a man who hated women.
- Bras. I know, TMI again. But seriously, super duper uncomfortable … and see above.
- Sleeveless tops. I actually love them but not on me. I have batwing arms and feel very self-conscious in them. Some day I won’t.
Clothes I Find Super Duper Comfortable and Live In
- T-shirts and shorts. My daily uniform.
- Elastic-waist banded pants. This is actually super bad. Don’t ever fall into this trap. It’s how you accidentally get fat. I mean, sure, they alone don’t cause weight gain but stretchy waist bands make it easy to pack on a few extra pounds without noticing. Ask me how I know this.
- Joggers overs leggings. Just a more flattering fit on me.
Things I Dislike Seeing Other People Post:
- Sponsored posts that are pure propaganda. I have zero issue with helping a blogger earn some coin from their stellar, balanced review that helps me make an informed decision whether to buy something or not. I, in fact, not only appreciate those posts but really enjoy reading them. My issue stems with those who simply promote every single product and rave about them without nuance. They just want to earn coin. We’re not in Legoland; Everything is NOT awesome.
- Overly cryptic posts. Sometimes you need/want to be a bit vague. That’s fine; it’s your blog. It’s your choice what parts of your life are open to public consumption. But some people aren’t just “Oh, things have been busy” or “I’ve got something big in the works and can’t wait to share it with you in the upcoming weeks” or whatever but are being super dramatic for the sake of being super dramatic. Also, most of the time, nothing that dramatic is happening.
- Put down posts. The kind where the blogger shares … vacation pics, promotion news, engagement/wedding/baby announcements, etc. intentionally written in a manner to make you feel bad versus celebrate their good news with them.
Things I Love Seeing Other People Post:
- Products (especially beauty products) that they love and use, whether sponsored or not. I love them, provided they are honest.
- Thought-provoking posts. Some bloggers always keep things light, which is fine, but I do love it when a blogger gets really real too, which sometimes means discussing the hard and difficult stuff too.
- Recipes. What can I say? I’m a foodie at heart and always looking for new recipes to try.
Those are just a few things that like and dislike and should add the caveat of today only. In other words, ask me in a week (or tomorrow) and the list might be different!
Your turn! Pick one and tell me your 3 things!
Tanya
I think I “accidentally got fat” too ๐ LOL – that line made me literally LOL!!!!
I too love cold offices. I’d rather be cold than sweat my face off!
Oh gosh – I just love Seinfeld. I can remember when it was on every week – Ricky & I would watch it – maybe I liked it because ricky doesnt watch many shows, much less anything comedy, so to hear him actually laugh about things, it gives me good feels to think of that show. I saw its coming to Netflix in 2020 – but at least they’re getting rid of Friends for you so you wont have both of them taking over your suggestion feed ๐ LOL
This accidentally got fat thing is a real problem! And sadly, one I’ve done multiple times too. ๐ Yay, another cold office fan. I find most people don’t like cold offices but I greatly prefer them because I can grab a wrap or a sweater. It’s sadly frowned upon to start removing clothes when it gets too hot in an office.
You have to pick the right thong. lol! And they take like wearing 1-2 times to get used to. I only do for workout clothes, but VPL was not acceptable to me. I love Friends but wasn’t into Seinfeld either. You can’t give me a free T-shirt! lol! I love tanks/sleeveless and hoodies. I’m with you on parenthesis!
See, that’s the hard thing. How do you which thong is gonna work or not work? I did not realize you were t-shirt averse, which is interesting to me. I know more people who avoid tanks/sleeveless for the same reason as me. But you have nice arms! I’d warm all the tanks/sleeveless shirts I could too!
you hate the show Friends? WHO ARE YOU?! just kidding. i’m not a fan of seinfeld either……maybe only 2 or 3 episodes were funny and they weren’t funny the whole episode either!
I know; I’m weird. I tell people about my Friends dislike and they all look at me like I’m crazy! Oddly, I actually liked Seinfeld a tish more than Friends, not sure why though.
These posts are so much fun to write and to read!
I’m laughing at “we’re not in Legoland” I don’t mind reading reviews but sometimes a blog can feel so impersonal when all that is posted is reviews. To each their own – I’d love to review products one day – but I’d want to keep the personal feel to my blog.
Nodding along to reality TV. I watched a few minutes of a reality show the other day and it was just two woman arguing about an apology not received. Talking to the camera and then arguing some more about a previous argument with their friends and someone not apologizing. I was like “why am I watching this?” I felt like I had to say sorry to myself for wasting time on mind numbing nonsense.
Oh, I agree. If a blog is just reviews, I don’t know if I would enjoy it. But I like to read reviews from bloggers that I trust. They have pointed me in the right direction on some products that I now love. And yes, the best reviews feel personal versus something they had to write. Reality TV annoys me. Seriously, seriously irritates me.
I enjoy grocery shopping, too ๐ I find it relaxing to be in my own head and imagine up yummy recipes or treats while browsing the aisles. I don’t mind sponsored posts but I don’t like it when they’re masked as something else. And I hate when bloggers put other people down. Not in a rant way, but when they crap on someone for just existing or liking something that might be TOO popular or unpopular. Great post. Hope the blogging mojo keeps growing ๐
I do that too – think about what I’ll make with this or that. But I’ve made the mistake a few times just recently of going grocery shopping while starving. Seriously, a bad move! That is one of my biggest pet peeves when bloggers put down others for doing things differently than they do. There is no one correct way to live, people!
Overly cryptic posts seriously get on my nerves! Why bring up anything in the first place if you are writing your post like you are in the witness protection program?? I don’t get it…
I watched Seinfeld when it was actually on TV back in the 90’s but I have never watched an episode in syndication. I feel like some shows are only watchable in the actual decade they were created.
Exactly! It’s your blog so you get to choose what you share!! No one is forcing to share what you don’t want to share or can’t share yet! I agree there are some shows that are excellent in their prime but don’t hold up afterwards and other shows are timeless, like Murder She Wrote. ๐
I love seeing all the food products grocery shopping too….but it’s always busy when I go grocery shopping on the weekends! Not good for browsing! I was never a huge Friends or Seinfeld fan – but I’d enjoy watching episodes if I ever caught them. It’s funny seeing my 13 year-old daughter obsessed with Friends now! I hate cold offices. I have to keep a fleece jacket at work since it’s always freezing. I love to travel! Wish I had more funds to do so though. In the meantime, I’m enjoying doing local travel and exploring New York with the family.
Yeah, when the grocery stores are busy is definitely takes the fun out of browsing. It’s fascinating to me how many young kids, millennials, etc are so in love with Friends. One of my former co-workers hated cold offices so much that she had a little space heater in her office. We were great friends but polar opposites when it came to the ideal office temperature. I like travel but I don’t love it in the same way most everyone else seems to.
